Additional Endorsements on letter of H. L. Lewis, dated Brenham, Texas, July 4th 1866, (L.16.). (E.B. page 81.) which was returned endorsed as follows by Capt. Craig — July 16th 1866,

Respectfully returned, Mr Breedlove wants an Office in the Court House, agrees with the new Treasurer elect to render such assistance as he can for the use of the Treasurers' office, Agreed, He tells me of this when on my way to dinner Friday. I remark I will not be contentious and upon this notice I come home from Houston Monday, find my office occupied by a lawyer for his Office. My Sign torn down. Myself turned out into the street or coolly told I can go up into the Court Room temporarily. I have never seen the new Treasurer although upon Mr Breedlove's application he has signed a Statement written by him (Breedlove) asking for the Office. It is my province to ask whether Mr Lewis the Treasurer can act under the present circumstances. Although the Chief Justice has Qualified him, I am sure that if he can his business was not so urgent as to require that I should find an office upon a day's notice to accommodate Mr Breedlove. Nor do I believe the Treasurer at any time will need his Office. I am sure the Secret of the whole matter is Mr Breedlove wants a law office. I am temporarily to avoid the use of force and an unnecessary quarrel, occuping the Court Room, and awaiting your Orders."
