Additional Endorsements on the letter of Surg- S. J. dated Galveston W. Mintzer. Texas. Jan. 8. 1867. (M. 181.) which was returnedby Byron Porter, S.A.C. enclosed as follows dated Galveston. Texas. Jan. 11. 1867:-

"Respetfully returned. When I relieved Lt. Col. DeGress as Sub-Asst. Comr. at Houston in Dec. 1865, he told me that Judge Baldwin had in his hands eighty (80) Dollars in specie which was to be turned over to me. I went with Col. DeGress to the office of Judge Baldwin who said that he had that amount in his hands, but that he thought it unjust to demand it under the circumstances and that he would not pay it over unless forced to do so. Knowing nothing of the merits of the case I referred the matter verbally to General Gregory who came to Houston in a few days afterwards. General Gregory saw Judge Baldwin and had some conversation with him about the matter but did not order it to be paid over and there the matter was dropped. No part of the money was ever paid over to me by Judge Baldwin or any one else, neither was the property turned over to me by Lt. Col. DeGress."
