Endorsement on the letter of D W C. Brown, dated Wharton Texas. May 3. 1867. (B. 160.)
Which was endorsed by Lt. A. H. M. Taylor, A.A.A.G.
May 11. 1867, as follows:—

"Respectfully referred to Lieut. J. T. Kirkman, A.A.A.G. Bu. R.F.&A.L.
When this Detachment was given the Agent at Wharton it was understood that the Bureau was willing and could transport rations from the R.R. Station (18 miles) for the men. Cannot this arrangement be continued?"

Respectfully returned to Lieut. A. H. M. Taylor, A.A.A.G. with request that the Detachment at Wharton have their rations commuted for the Month of May, during which time, if possible, arrangements will be made to transport their rations from the R.R. Station to Wharton.

Additional endorsement on the letter of A. H. Mayer dated, Liberty, April 19. 1867. Which was returned by D. T. Allen, Asst. Supt. of Schools, May 11. endorsed as follows: (M. 276.) (E.B. 363.) (E.B. 398)

Respectfully returned to Lieut. J. T. Kirkman.
Being unable to visit the points referred to within, the only information I have is from Maj. Mayer and chiefly set forth in his report. Schools could be organized if teachers could be employed.
Maj. Mayer was authorized to employ Mrs. Laura E. Worham at a salary of $25 per month with the promise of increase of pay should she prove an efficient teacher and organize a good school. I would respectfully recommend she be Appointed by the Bureau."
