Which was endorsed by order of Bvt Maj Gen. Reynolds per A.A.A, Gen. dated H'd Q'r's Sub Dist. Rio Grande, Brownsville Texas, August 1st 1867. as follows.

Respectfully referred to the Commanding Officer 41st Infantry who will please state if Capt R McClermont 41st Infantry can be detached from his Regiment without embarrassment to the Military service,

Respectfully returned to H'd Q'r's Dist of Texas. I object most strongly to having Capt McClermont detached from his Regiment at present, as he is not acquainted with the duties of a Captain of Infantry, particularly as regards drill

Respectfully referred through Hd. Qrs Bu R.F.&A.L. Dist of Texas to Maj Gen. O. O. Howard Commissioner &c. Washington, D.C. with the request that the error in date referred to within be corrected. Mr Maxwell has been Chief Clerk in this office ever since I took charge of it, and, previous thereto, his services are invaluable to The Bureau. from his long connection therewith and knowledge of the office duties, and I would respectfully request permission to make his salary $150 per month which is the amount allowed every other Chief Clerk in the various offices here.  more of whom have so important or laborious cuties to perform.
