Additional endorsement on the letter of Board of Aldermen Town of La Grange. dated La Grange. Texas. May, 19. 1868. Which was endorsed by Loius W. Stevenson. S.A.C. dated Columbus Texas. May 20, 1868. as follows.

Respectfully referred to Lieut Charles Vernou. A.A.A. Genl. I am not personally cognizant of the facts set forth in the within petition; but from a sojourn of several days in La. Grange on official business and from conversations held with people of all political sentiments and color, I am fully convinced the charges against Mr Griffin are true in every particular, and that there is a unanimous desire for his removal. There is a lawless gang of desperadoes from the surrounding country who are daily committing acts of violence in La Grange. which renders life very unsafe, and which demands the appointment of a man of courage and determination to fill the position of Town constable.
Personally Mr Carter's qualifications are unknown to me but Judges Lindsey and Techmere are old residents of such high standing that I cordially endorse their recommendation and earnestly urge speedy action in the premises.

Respectfully referred to 1st Lieut E. Morse
