THE SOCIETY OF ARTS AND CRAFTS

own people are preoccupied with measures for relief that at no time are we so greatly in need of the influence of great art - it's compelling calm, its universal sympathy, its constructive ideals. This is, then, my especial reason for the request this year.

If you are complaisant, would a day in January, 1915, be convenient? I mention this, for there always is a rush of "Charity" & other affairs up to Christmas, and such an event as desired to your galleries gives us all something to live for beyond the endurance of this "rush". By the way, perhaps you know whether Mr. Binyon is still planning to come over this autumn; there is now a tentative plan from the Museum of Art to collaborate with our society in lecture arrangements hereafter - and the combined funds might permit us to secure a course of lectures from him instead of a single one.

I am most grateful, personally, to you for your kindness to my friends last summer. I had most enthusiastic letters from both.

Ever faithfully ours
Helen Plumb, Secy.
