December 23rd,1908.

My dear Mr. Ledyard:-

On my return from Minneapolis last evening, I found your kind letter of December 21st, enclosing Mr. L'Hommedieu's letter to you of December 19th, and I beg to express my appreciation of the keen interest you have taken in the complaint which I felt compelled to make to you personally, concerning the incident which occurred in one of the dining-cars of your company, recently.

I am sorry, to have caused the discharge of one of your employees, but feel, that his punishment is just, and that his discharge will improve your dining-car services.

I judge, from Mr. L'Hommedieu's letter to you, that he is under the impression, that the dining-car conductor also insulted Doctor Angell. This is erroneous - Doctor Angell was not in the dining-car at the time of my abuse, but, when the conductor of the dining-car came back to our sleeper to argue with me, Doctor Angell was sitting near-by. After the conductor left the sleeper, I related the circumstances to Doctor Angell who expressed his view of the matter, and urged me to enter my complaint to you personally.
