J. W. Beatty, Esq.,
Director of Fine Arts,
Carnegie Institute,
Pittsburgh, Pa.

Dear Mr. Beatty:-

Your letter of January 12th, reached me at my residence on the 14th, inst. and in reply, I immediately wired you:

"Yes, pleased to loan the Saint-Gaudens sketch."
and the present, is the first opportunity I have had to confirm my telegram.

I am glad, indeed, that your Institue and the Art Institute of Chicago, are to exhibit the work of Saint-Gaudens, recently shown in New York and Washington. The group is magnificent, and its influence will be far reaching.

I am pleased, indeed, to loan the "Sketch of Figure of Painting" which was designed by Saint-Gaudens, at my request.
