My dear Mr. Bixby:-

Your good letter of January 22nd, came yesterday, and this morning's mail, brings a letter from Mr. Mallinckrodt accompanying your letter of introduction.

It will give me much pleasure to meet Mr. Mallinckrodt while he is in this city and I thank you for having let me know of his visit.  It is always a pleasure to meet men of his type.

Yes, I received from the Bibliophile Society, a copy of the Dickens Letters, also of the Geddes Burns Letters, both very interesting works[[crossed-out]] and [[/crossed-out]]which add much interest to my little group of " Books worth while." I hope you understand what a great work you are doing for American literature in permitting so many yours valuable manuscripts to be circulated throughout our country.

Colonel Hecker is spending the winter in visiting Nassau, Cuba, Jamaica and other points of interest in that locality.  He is expected to return home some time in April.

I am planning to be in Detroit until next spring or summer and as soon as an opening occurs, I want to run down to Saint Louis and spend
