Dear Sir:-
Your letter, without date, reached me yesterday; evidently it was seen without your having seen a copy of the reprint of Whistler's Ten O'clock, which is now being offered for-sale. If you will examine a copy thereof, you will find, that it is a reprint of the edition originally issued by Mr. Whistler, that it is published by the representative of Mr. Whistler and that Mr. Ernest, Dressel North of New York City, is simply the sole sales agent.
Your plans contemplated the seisure of all rights - even that of changing the form of the book and of adding to its contents. In object-ing to this, Miss Birnie-Philip wisely protected herself and continued Mr. Whistler's traditions.
I deem it entirely unnecessary to differ with the statement, that your book is "more beautiful and dignified than Mr. Whistler's own edition". and I fear not, that Mr. Whistler's art will be displaced by yours.

Yours truly,
Charles L. Freer
