My dear M. Benedite:-

You will, I trust, recall our meeting in Paris at the time of the Whistler Memorial Exhibition, given under your direction; also my cooperation in permitting reproductions made of several of the paintings belonging to me, which appeared in your excellent commemorative work.

May I ask, in behalf of my friend Mr. Charles H. Caffin of New York City - a writer and lecturer of distinction - the privilege of having a color slide made of the "Portrait de la Mere de Whistler" in your charge at the Luxembourg Gallery. Mr. Caffin has in his possession about fifty color slides of Whistler's work in my collection - to this lot, he wishes to add slides of the portrait of Whistler's mother and a few other important examples of the Master's work owned in Europe and America. These slides Mr. Caffin intends to use in a series of lectures which is he now preparing for delivery in America and possibly Great Britain.

Your cooperation will be deeply appreciated by Mr. Caffin, myself and the large audiences which he hopes to entertain.

With assurances of my high esteem, I remain,

Very sincerely yours,
Charles L. Freer
