Cass Gilbert, Esq.,

New York City, N.Y.

Dear Mr. Gilbert:-

Let me thank you for your kind letter of the 4th inst., which has just reached me.

The suggested change in location of the Lincoln Memorial to be erected in Washington, seemed to me a serious mistake, and I felt it a duty to do what little I could toward the maintenance of the Park Commission's plan. Our local press treated the matter with friendly dignity. Senator William Alden Smith, as you know, is opposed to making any change in the original plan; I believe, he is deeply interested in educational and artistic matters and that his vote can be depended upon, whenever a just cause is before Congress.

It was a pleasure to meet you in Washington, and I hope, we may be fortunate enough to become better acquainted in the future.

Believe me,

Very sincerely yours,
Charles L Freer
