SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION
WASHINGTON
[[/left margin]]

March 3, 1916.

Dear Mr. Moore:

Yours of the 1st is just at hand. I am glad to know you are soon to meet Mr. Platt in Washington, and shall hope to see you then. Now that the ball has been started rolling, work on the new building cannot begin too soon.

Your report of Mr. Freer's health is extremely gratifying. We most earnestly desire to have him see his life work arranged and placed before the public as he must long have pictured it, and he should also live to hear the applause which is certain to be given to the generous benefactor.

I will punch Mr. Holmes up as soon as he returns.*

Sincerely yours,
Richard Rathbun

Mr. Charles Moore,
Director, Detroit Museum of Art,
Detroit, Michigan.

*Mr. Holmes is coming to expert the Stearns Collection, with a view to reducing it to its proper venue
