Mr. R. Rathbun,
Acting Sec., Smithsonian Institution,
Washington, D. C.

Dear Mr. Rathbun:

Accept my appreciation of your good letter of September 25th and the photographs of the site for the new building, enclosed therewith.

The four photographs are very interesting and I am particularly glad that you included the one showing the interesting group listening to the orator (yourself). I agree with you that any ceremony that you or Dr. Walcott may deem proper, had better be planned for the time of laying the corner stone or when the building shall have been thrown open to the public.

I have received from Japan the names of the two artists who are coming to America
