SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION
UNITED STATES NATIONAL MUSEUM
WASHINGTON, D.C.

OFFICE OF
ASSISTANT SECRETARY,
SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION
IN CHARGE U.S. NATIONAL MUSEUM

May 7, 1917.

Mr. Charles L. Freer,
The Plaza,
New York City.

Dear Mr. Freer:

I am sending you enclosed three photographs of the sub basement construction of the new building, taken on May 2 and 3. The smaller one is especially interesting as showing the entire thing compactly. It was taken from the top of the highest tower of the Smithsonian building.

The other two were also taken from better points of vantage, than have been used hitherto. They are from the roof of the Smithsonian stable, and show the details very fully.

With best wishes, believe me,
Very truly yours,
R. Rathbun

Assistant Secretary
in charge of National Museum.
