Richard Rice, Jr.,

My dear Mr. Rice:-

Absence from Detroit and illness has prevented an earlier reply to your valued letter of the 20th instant.

I regret exceedingly that I cannot inform you where you could obtain a book containing a reproduction of Hokusai's painting of Rihaku by the Cascade, but I have no doubt that if you correspond with Mr. Frederick W. Cookin, #13 West Walton Place, Chicago, Ills., he can give you the desired information.

I am delighted to learn that you are associated with Smith College, as Professor of English, and I wish you every success in your new work. The field is large and important and I feel conf9dent that you will enjoy your new post. I am also greatly pleased to learn of your engagement and I tender my heartiest congratulations to both yourself and Miss. Dye.

Owing to illness and absence from Detroit my residence and galleries here have been closed since December, 1914, and they are not likely to be re-opened this year. Under the circumstances, it is impossible to receive visitors, but I hope to be able sometime in the futyre to re-open the galleries and receive friends and guests, as before.

Believe me, with every good wish,

Sincerely yours,
