Brig Genl E.M. Gregory
Asst. Comr of the Bureau of Refugees etc
Galveston, Texas
Sir
Not knowing if my name has not been officially transmitted to you by Maj. Genl. O.O. Howard, with whom I have been in correspondence since I was ordered with my regiment to Texas, I beg leave to [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] refer to the enclosed letter received today from his Asst. Adjt. Genl, and respectfully request that you will consider the subject mentioned therein.

I have the honor to state also that my regiment will probably in a few days resume its march to San Antonio, and any communication you may be pleased to make to me will reach me, no doubt, at that post, unless other dispositions are made of what was once known as the 4th Corps of the Army of the Cumb'l'd.

With an earnest desire to be useful to the Government, and with an eye directed, particularly, to the welfare of the freedmen
P.T.O.

---------- Reopened for Editing 2023-04-09 18:25:49 The initials after Wis. at the top do not look like D.T.I. to me. Maybe instead it is V.V.I.? Veteran Volunteer Infantry? The abbreviation at the end of the next to last paragraph refers to the Army of the Cumberland. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2023-04-10 01:37:46
