Marshall Harrison County Texas November 1st 1865 Brig Genl E. M. Gregory Asst Commissioner Bureau Refugees &c Galveston Texas Sir: In compliance with Par 173 Revised Army Regulations I have the honor to report that in accordance with Par. 1 Special Orders No. 1 Headquarters Bureau of Refugees Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, Texas, Galveston Oct 6th 1865, I left Galveston Oct 8th reached Houston the 9th when finding it impossible to go to Marshall overland, returned to Galveston Oct 11th. There being no Steamer for New Orleans I was compelled to wait until the 14th of Oct when I embarked on Steamer Rebecca Clyde reaching New Orleans Oct 17th embarked at once on steamboat Sonora and reached Shreveport La Oct 26th thence overland to Marshall a distance of forty miles, arriving October 27th 1865 I am Very Respectfully Your Obedient Servant H.
