Galveston Augt 5th 1865

To
Chief of the Freedmans Bureau for the State of Texas.

Sir

I would respectfully present my claims for the situation of Superintendent of Freedmen under your management & control for your consideration. I do not know that I use the exact phrase to indicate the position I desire, but beg you to understand that I desire as respectable a position as you can confer on a Civilian. I have lived in the State near thirty years - have practised law & presided over the Judiciary & believe from my view & position I could give general satisfaction to the Employer and the Freedman. I have a very general & extensive acquaintance on the Middle Colorado of which Columbus is the centre, living in that section.
