ignorant part which demands exorbitant prices.

And another matter worth relating, has also drawn my attention. Every vacant house is shocked full of negroe women and children who left their, mostly good, homes, living now in poverty & vice, how they get their living? God knows! by ordering them out of one house they will move to another still more obscene. In former days women were high in the market "if they had children" but now it seems that employers have a dislike to negroe children. What will become of these poor wretches? I don't know. According to the new order of affairs some men have left theyr former wifes with 3-4-6 children and taken young women "who are able to work"

When such women call on me for assistance, I am out. I have no means, and the best of advice don't benefit their condition. On account of this I have persuaded several men with helpless families "to rent land" even if the prospect is not all together favorable.

Still I hope that after one years experience the blacks will be able to shift for themselfes. For the present I close and if it falls to my lot I shall make due reports. I hope to hear from you soon. I remain
