Sir & Brother: - 

A few days since I saw by the Christian Advocate & Journal that there was a Genl. Gregory had been app'd as Com'r of Texas Freedmen, &, supposing that it was that same Christian soldier that I knew in the 5th A.C., I concluded to write to him.

The recommendation which you so kindly & heartily gave me for a Regular Army Chaplain was endorsed by Genl's Hayes, & Ayres, & that strongly endorsed by Gen'l Meade. This recommend is about to be presented by Simon Cameron to
