know that they do not care for forfeiting of this kind when they become disatisfied— It is also a fact that these little disatisfactions soon pass away when not encouraged— I do not wish to be understood as complaining of Mr. Shelby, but I do not understand your order as he does— If these freedmen leave me now, that my crop (owing to the rains) needs work [[?]] it will demoralize the remainder of my hands— My contracts are fair and liberal to the freedmen and have all been approved by the Bureau and as the Agent of the Bureau here will certify, I have always treated the freedmen employed by me fairly and properly. I regret to trouble you but I hope you will reply to me.
