Col Bailey 9th U.S.C.T.
Chief of Freedman's Bureau
Dept of Texas

Sir
I have the honor to request a little information, if consistant with the Service. What are the requirements of the Bureau, on colored people that they may obtain the benefits, protection, and care of the same?

There are a number of Colored men and women, at and near this post, that are quite old, were brought here from the interior of the state, during the war by their masters, who have deserted them, and they are now destitute, and asked me to write to some one in their behalf.

Please Excuse the informality of thus addressing you direct, but I am uninformed as to the proper chanels of communicating with the "Freedman's Bureau" Hoping the excuse of the informality is sufficient.
