the draft and ascertaining in the meanwhile that Hanford & Willard were removing a portion of the crop off the premises preparatory to shipment to Galveston in plain violation of the contract, the Agent of the principal Dr. D. H. Crisp called on the Trustee R. V. Cook Esq to proceed under the Deed of Trust and advertise the property for sale. This was accordingly done as shown by the printed handbill hereunto attached marked (B) an advertisement appearing also in the Columbus "Times" newspaper. Before taking this step knowing that the Freedmen on the place had an interest in the crop the undersigned went together to the office of the Sub Assistant Commissioner of the Freedmen's Bureau for this County - to wit: Mr Enon M. Harris and entered into a full explanation of the whole affair exhibiting to Mr Harris the Trust Deed and assuring him of our wish not to interfere with the right of the negroes nor to interrupt their share of the crop. Mr Harris remarked that he saw no reason why he should interfere. Subsequently Mr Harris told one of us after the Bill had been struck
