Rec'd B.R. F & L. Dec. 11, 1867 December 9th 1867 Genl J.J. Reynolds, [[?]] Sir In my absence Messrs Hansford & Willar who rented my place and bought my stock of mules horses oxen cattle and hogs and gave a deed in Trust on them and the rent of the place has persuaded my old servants to claim off of me for 1865 their wages again and the Bureau here not knowing the condition of the contract granted it I wish you to withhold any judgement in the case until I get the affadavit of Mayor Houston the commander of the post and Capt Walker the provost marshall as they were both at my house and made the contract for me. I had about 50 that went to the field out of 200 these were 30 Breeding women with their children- I agreed with them to [[?]] and
