ready hands, I consented to pay the fine, on my arrival at Capt OM Wheelers where after being them and their charged with murder, which consisted in arresting the leader of the gang J.O. Stevens when his wife was sick, and who died some 3 days afterwards.  Stevens, however, was instantly released when he informed of his wife's illness and was never retained an hour in my custody, though arrested in town and not where his sick wife was he only reported by my order once after this and was not detained a minute.
