Austin, Texas Oct. 22nd 1867 Brvt. Maj. Genl. J.J. Reynolds U.S.A. Asst. Comr. Bureau R.F. and A.L. Austin Texas Sir I have the honor to report the following facts and notes. My office (In Jasper, Jasper Co. Texas) was surrounded at midnight July 21st 1867 by an armed mob; at least fifteen (15) shotts were fired throught the building. I rec'd a very severe flesh wound through the fleshy part of the thigh. I slowly recovered and still continued on duty. On Tuesday August 2nd I rec'd a detatchment of severn men from Bvt. Maj. S.H. Sanger U.S.A. Comdg Post of Woodville Tyler Co Texas. Everything worked smoothly from that time untill a distorted reading of the Presidents proclamation was rcd, which purported
