Another man by mane Bryant "also of Burkville" [[Burkeville]] shot a freedwoman and her two  sons without any provocation all of which occured in about four weeks.  I rec'd a note from M H. Goddin Sub  Asst Comr at Livingston Polk Co Texas on Oct 3rd stating that my  name had been bandied around by rebels that I had recd bribes as bureau aget for Polk Co. the previous year and that he wished my attendance at a trial that was about to take place.  I complied with is request and appeared at Livingston on Monday Oct 18th.  The same day a notice appeared in Blake's Bulletin stating that Mr M H Goddin was relieved as Bureau Agent.  Armed resistance immediately began.  A Freedman was ricked and cuffed about in Nelson's Grocery under my immediate observation Threats were uttered against Mr Goddin's life. I told Mr Goddin
