of court, and also to give up a bond for the appearance of B. T. Pier The names of the party were J.O. Stevens, B.T. Pier, J.B. Slade and T.B. Slade.  We heard while at Col. Wheelers that Frar [[?]] Garner had shot at a freedman in Livingston and that a freedman then shot five times at him because he had been in Mr Goddins employ.  These outrages were attempted to be screened by the civil authorities  I told Judge J. S. Cleveland , C.J. that there was no use of his taking any steps in the matter, that it was a plain case for a Military Court.  Col. U. Neyland Senator to the last legislature told me that the rebels were thoroughly organized that no negro would be allowed to vote unless they were that any persons attempting to resist them in voting
