I would be pleased if Genl Griffin would lend some man moore able to do the duties of the office than myself I would not have accepted only I dislike to see the poor robed of their work and no one to relieve them the pay is too little a man has to pay 15$ a month bord in specie other expenses eats up his wages in should be attached to the office of Chief Justice of the county and a man could live on the pay I had a stormy time in 1866 now I have quite smoothe sailing too what it was then we have no regular mail from here to Waco and has had none for three weeks I do not know when this will leave here.
