Mark Erwin Jr sworn says -
I was formerly a slave belonging to Dr. John H. Crisp. I received from Dr. Crisp after I was free in 1865 only one blouse, one pair of shoes, and one pair of pants and shirt for self, and my wife Vina one dress and pair of shoes. I never received any money from Dr. Crisp for the work of myself and wife from the time I was set free till Christmas though he promised us pay. Lt. Col. Wilkinson of the 30th Mo. Infty. formerly commanding the post at Columbus told me to get the hands together and he would come to the Bureau with us and see they got their money as he said it was right and heard Dr. Crisp say he would pay us all that would stay and work till Christmas.
