County of Colorado
State of Texas

J.A. Seymour sworn says,
I am a planter in this county and reside one and one half miles below Columbus. In 1865 I had hired two hands by the name of Hiram Underwood and Tom Crisp, slaves of a daughter of Dr. Crisp, but hired of Dr. Crisp.

I gave my note for the amount I promised to pay for them, payable to Doctor John H. Crisp. I hired them for the year, and paid Doctor Crisp the amount of the notes in full before they became due [[strikethrough]] in full [[/strikethrough]].

I think the note which I gave for their hire and which I paid was either for $185 or Two hundred and twenty five ($225) dollars. I do not remember exactly which. For Hiram I think I paid the amount at about eighteen dollars per month to Mr. Mitchell, who had Hiram hired from the Doctor.
