George Harris sworn says -
I formerly belonged to Dr. John H. Crisp as a slave. After I was set free he told me if I would remain and work till Christmas he would give me ten Dollars per month as a field hand, but if I did any wagoning he would pay extra wages. I teamed it for him two weeks to San Antonio, two weeks to the Brazos, hauled up all his corn and other work as a teamster. I think I worked as a teamster about three months and the balance of the time as a field hand. I worked all of the time from when I was set free till the subsequent Christmas. He promised me my victuals and clothes extra. I have never received any money and only one pair of shoes and a blouse. I asked him for my money twice. The first time when I left at Christmas and the next time was last year 1866. He said both times he did not have any money to pay. His son Jim told me if I did not leave the place he would kill me. This was when I first asked for my money and I then left. I was in Nathaniel Axioms quarters
