A Office Sub-Assistant Commissioner, BUREAU R., F. & A.L., STATE OF TEXAS. LIBERTY, Liberty Co., June 26th 1867. Commanding Officer. Post of Houston. Houston, Texas. Sir: I have the honor to request that you will send four (4) mounted men to West Liberty, with orders to the non-commissioned officer, in command, to leave his men & horses at that place, and he report to me in person for instructions. The water being so high & the bridge washed away, it will be impossible to get here with horses. I want their services to arrest three men in "Tarkington Prairie", for inhumanly beating & mal-treating, a freedman. Hoping you will respond to my request immediately. I have the honor to be, Very Respectfully Yr Obt Sert A.H. Mayer S.A.Comr
