Copy H. No 2 Hd Qrts. S.A Comms Liberty - Texas July 22" 1867. Br Col J. D. Q. Connell USA "Commanding Post." Houston Colonel I have the honor to acknowledge the reception of your communication of 18", Enclosing Report" of Sergt [[Storrhates]]. All I can say is the Sergt did not follow instructions. "Baldwin's Store" [at which place I have been several times,] is on a main road. One that you could not get off, if you tried, just 25 miles from West Liberty & 8 miles from the river. "Baldwin," does not live in the "Prairie" but in Liberty, at the same time he owns the store & it is known far & wide as "Baldwins Store". It makes no materia difference as the men I wanted have run off & located near "Sabine Pass", in Capt Archers SubDistrict. I telegraphed you today to send for men by next train to Beaumont. Archer will have all the papers & will sent the Guard with the Sheriff to make the arrests. Very Respectfully Yr Obt Sert A.H.Thayer S.A.Comms
