rather women worked. Remained until night committed a rape upon a negro girl by putting her in fear.  Proceeded Eight miles further & hired to work. Was arrested and brought back. lodged in jail and process issued on the affidavit of the freed girl as to the rape. the said Sturgiss refused to surrender him for trial but as your Petitioners are informed procured from him an affidavit that said Delano persuaded him to desert, go ten miles and procure work, and furnished him with money to buy clothes. And upon which affidavit the said Delano has this morning been arrested and lodged in the dungeon of the jail as alleged by an order from you. We thus present the facts of the whole case shewing and exhibiting what we believe to be the primary cause of the whole matter viz: the  possession of the house and lot. And as the said Thos. Chubb has boasted of his influence with the military, and in as much as the said H. B. Sturgis has taken or seemed to take part with the said Chubb we respectfully ask that an early investigation be had
