arithmetic & writing are all that we have found practicable as yet to teach in the classes.
From the beginning, there has been no interception of the school being held on Monday & Friday evenings, except occasionally a stormy eveningm & no summer vacation as is usual with other schools.
A part of the time, there has been much difficulty experienced in procuring teachers for the school.  Very few persons even of those who profess to be interested in the education of the colored people are found to have the requisite self denial & perseverance, to continue long, regularly & promptly in this service.  One teacher, Mr. Warren Brown, of the Internal Revenue office, has been in the school almost from the beginning.  One beside, Mr. William Webb, of the Paymaster General's office, has been in the school about eight months, & still holds out well.  Others have thought they did well with occasional absences
