As to the enforcement of the state law, it is good enough in intent; but in terms it is loose and general; and hence, probably nothing could be done, in the cases here reported.

I shall visit [[strikethrough]] Canneton [[/strikethrough]] Cannelton and any other places I may find, as soon as possible, and will report whatever seems important, at once.

The river is now very low, and the mails irregular; sometimes being detained several days.

If you can, without inconvenience, please send me a small quantity of stationery. It is a small item, but it costs double here what it does East; and is poor at that.

If you wish my reports to contain less of detail, or be different in form, please instruct accordingly; although it would be difficult
