HEADQUARTERS
UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY
WEST POINT, NEW YORK

October 31, 1903.

My dear General Alger:-

Your letter of the 29th is at hand. A new Chapel is one of the buildings provided for in the improvements to be carried out here, the present Chapel being entirely too small for its purpose. On account of the many sentiments connected with the old Chapel, it will be retained if it is practicable to do so, but probably placed on some different site.

I am glad to know that Mr. St. Gaudens and Mr. Freer are to call here before long. I will be very glad to see them and they themselves will be able to look over the ground and probably select the most suitable place for a memorial for Mr. Whistler.

With sincere regards, I remain

Faithfully yours,
A. L. Mills

Honorable Russell A. Alger,
U. S. Senator,
Detroit, Michigan.
