Head Quarters Post of Indianola
Indianola Tex. April 2d 1867.

Lieut:

I have the honor to report that during the month of March 1867 I established two schools in this County, one at Indianola under the charge of David Peebles and one at Lavaca under the charge of J.O Stevenson. The school at this point is in a very prosperous condition and I am offered the lease of an entire Block of City lots for five years free of rent, if, I will have a schoolhouse built upon it. The Freed People here will erect the building if the Bureau will furnish the materials. The probable cost will be Four hundred dollars ($400.00) and I would suggest that it be built as the rent I am obliged to pay now is enormous and I can do no better. I have not yet received the report of the Teacher at Lavaca, so I cannot report anything definite concerning the school at that point.

In compliance with instructions I have been all through the County adjacent to this point
