Prior to the last cold weather considerable corn had been planted, but I am informed that it escaped & will not require replanting. Cotton is being rapidly put in the ground, so that all planting will soon be over. Both classes White & Black are feeling very sanguine of a good year, & are confident the cold winter weather of last month has destroyed every vestige of a cotton worm

The sanitary condition of the blacks in this County is good. Physicians are not paying expenses

I have a detachment of five US soldiers with me. It would be impossible to execute orders without them
