In the early part of the month Mr. E. Lockett merchant having a little difficulty with Mr. B. Stones another merchant - fired a shotgun across the street wounding Stones probably mortally - he is now under bonds awaiting trial - no other outrage to report. A small school has been started under a colored teacher at this place - for primary instruction. There is great need of competent white teachers in my District. I have the honor to refer to previous communication on the subject of neglect to try serious cases by the District Court. My citizen clerk has been discharged and I have again moved my office on account of fire - which has delayed this months papers. Very Respectfuly Edward Collins Capt. 17 In Sub. Asst.
