Dear Sir

Matters of Public concern remain about as when I last addressed you. Much anxiety & interest is expressed in relation to registration, next week I will forward you a list of names I think best suited for registers. I am doing all I can to organise a school for freed children in this place, though it meets with much opposition from some. I think we can begin with 20 or 25 scholars and increase the number.

I then want to see what can be done on the west side of the river in way of schooling.

The freedmen are as a general thing doing very well. Much better than they did this time last year. One awful struggle I intend to make, it is this, to prevent them from being brought under the influence of tricksters in the approaching registration & elections I have a notion to take the stump and talk
