I staid two weeks longer. [strikethrough]P[/strikethrough] a great many complaints came to me by parents who have children in the possession of their former masters and they cannot get them away. many dare not go after them. The School in Victoria is flourishing finely under the care of Mrs. Cunningham. The children are making great advancement in reading. one boy Seven years old read very well in the fourth reader. There were but very few that wrote in writing Book. I suggested the propriety to Mrs. C of compelling them to lay aside the slate as soon as possible and use the pen. She acceps a vacation of one month.

I have no troops and think none are necessary. The people seem to realize the condition they are in and promply comply with all requests and obey all orders

Very Respectfully,
Your Obdt. Servt.
Hiram Clark.
