to hire a horse, owing to the fact that the people will not give credit to any government official, as every officer that has been here, has left owing a large bill for horse hire.

There are no troops on duty in this Sub District, Private J. F. Stokes. having been ordered to join his regiment, which will be a great drawback to me. in the discharge of my duties.

My office hours are from 8. a.m. to 12. and from 2 to 6. p.m.

I have been absent from my office, but two days during this month, gathering the evidence in connection with the case of Adelaide. f.w..c vs C C Millican, but should have been absent much more, but for the want of a horse, there being a great demand for my services to settle disputes, in all directions of the County.

I have nothing to report in regard to the operation of the State Laws, no case having been brought under my notice. 

There are still several claims of Freedpersons against Planters for services during the year 1866 but which I am unable to settle for the want of some means of transportation.
