when Mr Cowan came and brought my children out of the field to the house it was in a few days after his brother had been killed & when he was in such a rage he had been hunting the men & then came to me, I went to Mr Cowan afterward, he said I could work in the field & if I would help him he would help me & would furnish me teams and such things as I needed.

Before Mr Cowan refused to let me work in the field, Alex & Bill & Stuart and Jessee had been accused of killing Mr Cowans brother.
