Testimony of Wilson Hanks
The Tuesday following after Mr. Ben Cowan was killed I was in the bottom in the East side of the river, when several men rode up hunting me, they rode so near me, that I knew a part of the men. I saw Tom Cowan, & Fritz Erdman, Mr. F. Gabehart, Mr. Lee Pitts, Mr. Sullivan, Wm Munger, C.Vicks & others. I heard them talking about me, and say the understood I was at old man Jerry Penrices'. I was about four feet from them. It was about two weeks and a half after this when Wash Brannlett was killed.

I did not hear Tom Cowan, C. Vicks or Bill Tubbs say anything about it since Wash was killed. I saw Chris Vicks evening before Wash was killed, he came into Mr. Whitleys field, he hailed Alex. Stuart who was on the East side, he told Alex to tell me to come down there. Alex hailed to me to come down said Mr. Vick wanted to see me and when I went to the river Mr. Vicks said he had come to go over the river to see me to get some corn from me. I told him I did not know how much corn I had over there, he observed that I had a good deal of corn over there yet. I told him to go back to Mary Hands tell her to let him have some corn about 10 barrells. I told Mr. Vicks that I did not know when I was coming over in reply to two or three times he asked me. I told Neiyla to go or get Joe Branch to go or tell Mary Hanks to let Mr Vicks have the corn. The night before Wash was killed Mr. Wm. Tubbs said that he wanted to go over the river that Mr. Cowan had sent for him, he went down the next morning
