Testimony of Hellen Hanks for the State. 
On the Sunday evening when Ben Cowan was killed I was sitting in the gallery, at the Goodloe place, I was sitting there heard the alarm. John Tubbs brought the news that Ben Cowan was shot. John Tubbs hollered to Thos Cowan to come out that Ben Cowan was shot. John Tubbs hollered to Thos Cowan to come out there that Ben Cowan was shot. Mr. Thomas Cowan. Presley Ward Christ Vick, Young Mr. Kidd, Frank Bushwall. Randan [[Munger?]], Mr Pitts & Ms Gray were all at the Goodloe place that evening. Mr Christ. Vick. made some threats, he Vick came back and said the Goodloe crowd killed him. Mr Pitts told him to hold on that it was his place to arrest them. - to be easy. Vick said he had seen the Goodloe crowd acting big around there for some time especially old Wills, - Christ. Vick said he intended to have ten for one, and as far old Wills wanted his old head, that old Wills, was King of the Goodloe crowd, - I and Margaret heard the alarm, Chist. Vick said Ben was killed now, and the last one had better look out little & big. He said they had been packing their six shooters for a good while & acting big men, I and Margaret went down to Mary Hanks house, Tuesday morning following I went to the field & commenced hoeing and had hoed my row a good piece when Mr. Cowan & Vick came riding up & Mr. Tom Cowan asked the witness what she was doing, when she replied she was trying to make some corn here; he replied, you can't make any bread this close to me; he said I have been a mighty good friend of yours but you cannot make any bread here & if he found any one working there if a child he intended to make them
