My dear Mr. Freer,

I am ashamed to say that I am not sure whether you have already received the enclosed photograph. I intended to send you two prints (& now do) and I also send a full report of my letter to the Yale student.

I have no adequate excuse for not knowing whether this is the first or second sending. I only know that there has never been any doubt in my mind that the very first photograph etc. should have gone to you.

If there has been a delay, please pardon it. If there is a work of supererogation please forget how such things are condemned by the xxxix articles.
