"Report the disposition and feeling of the white people towards the freed people as expressed by words and actions."

The disposition and feeling of the people of this Sub-District is extremely malicious towards the Freed people They are in the habit of using such language as "if it was not for that damned Bureau I would shoot their brains out-."

EDUCATION.
"Report the feeling upon the subject of education; what steps have been taken to promote the same; what efforts the freed people are making in that direction and in what manner they may be assisted, &c., &c."

The white people of this sub-district are generally opposed to the education of the freedpeople. I opened a school for freedpeople in the city of Paris on the first Monday of November 1867. and it is now in successful operation. The freed people of this place now subscribed near one hundred dollars in [[?]] towards the erection of a school house and church. The white people will not permit the freedpeople to hold their religious meetings in their churches, and it was a customary occurrence that their meetings in the woods, out of doors, were broken up by [[?]] previous to the occupation of this place by the Federal Troops. Their meetings are now entirely suspended on account of cold weather. I will commence a school in Bonham as soon as possible
